Lookin At Lucky head shot

Toplucky Lookin At Lucky’s Newest Graded Stakes Winner

It was another top weekend in Chile for Lookin At Lucky when his son Toplucky’s (4c Lookin At Lucky x Topisima, by Powerscourt) Grade III win in the Clasico Primavera Hernan Braun y Carolina Budge de B. led home a four-winner day for the sire.

Racing over a mile and a quarter on turf, the flashy Toplucky was placed just behind the pacesetter in the small field and it quickly turned into a match race with Toplucky biding his time in second. Jockey Jorge González was confident in his mount and once he asked the colt to go in the stretch, Toplucky responded to take over the lead inside the final furlong. The colt did exactly what he needed to do to seal the victory and won by a little over a length for his first graded stakes win.

Trained by Patricio Baeza for Quinchao, Toplucky earned his first stakes victory in the Listed Agustin Edwards Ross two starts ago and has won six of his career starts with nine other top three finishes.

Bred by Haras Paso Nevado, Toplucky is one of two stakes horses out of the winning mare Topisima with both by Lookin At Lucky. Topisima is a half-sister to Chilean Champion 2-Year-Old Truly Funny and hails from the family of U.S. Grade I winner Jackson Bend and Grade I-placed Fort Loudon.

Toplucky was one of four Lookin At Lucky winners on the Club Hipico card with Baeza training three of them. The colt becomes Lookin At Lucky’s 33rd graded stakes winner worldwide with the stallion having 51 stakes winners and 101 stakes horses overall.

It has been a top 12 months for Lookin At Lucky with the two-time Champion racehorse also the sire of last year’s Champion Older Dirt Male Accelerate and this year’s Kentucky Derby winner Country House.
