River Tiber (Wootton Bassett) Wins The Coolmore Stud Calyx Race at Naas

Unbeaten Wootton Bassett Colt On Course For Coventry

The exciting River Tiber (2c Wootton Bassett - Transcendence, by Arcano) remains favourite for the Coventry Stakes after making it two from two in the Coolmore Stud Calyx Race at Naas on Sunday.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt blitzed his rivals with a ten length debut win at Navan last month and was sent off favourite to follow up under Ryan Moore. Racing in second for much of the way, the bay was asked to quicken from two furlongs out and was ridden approaching the final furlong. Running on well to lead soon after, he kept on strongly to win by two and a half lengths going away.

There should be more to come from the winner, according to his trainer. “He's not had anything to take him off the bridle at home,” O’Brien revealed. “It was good today that there was a good strong pace on good ground. Ryan had to get down and make him stretch, so he will have learned a lot about it today. He's one to look forward to. We thought he would be a Coventry horse.”

River Tiber was bred by Pier House Stud, who sold the son of Wootton Bassett to MV Magnier and White Birch Farm for 480,000gns as a yearling.
