Wonderful Justice (Justify) Wins Black Gold Stakes at Fair Grounds

Wonderful Justice Newest Stakes Winner for Justify

Wonderful Justice (3c Justify x I’m Wonderful, by Giant’s Causeway) was the second stakes winner of the day for Justify with a victory in the Black Gold Stakes.

Making his second career start, the Blue Diamond Stud Farm homebred raced in second going 1 1/16 miles around the Fair Grounds turf course while following the pacesetting Reckoning Force. The battle for the win geared up in upper stretch when Wonderful Justice started closing the gap that had opened between him and his target with time running out.

The bay made up ground with every stride and was able to get up before the wire and have a neck advantage over a late closer with the pacesetter having to settle for third.

The Brad Cox trainee has now won both his starts to be the latest stakes winner listed under stakes winning granddam Rebridled Dreams’ name.

“He improved in his second start,” Cox said. “He’s a beautiful horse and I think he’s got a big future. He’s been improving and developing a lot mentally. I thank the ownership group for giving us an opportunity with him. He has the pedigree for stretching beyond one mile and a sixteenth. There’s plenty of opportunity on the Kentucky circuit and the NYRA circuit and I think he’ll be competitive at the top of that division.”

In addition to Wonderful Justice’s dam, Rebridled Dreams produced I’m Wonderful’s Grade I win full brother Carpe Diem and Grade I winning half-brother J.B.’s Thunder.

Her runners also include multiple Grade II winner Farrell and multiple stakes winner Doncaster Rover.

Justify was the sire of three winners on Saturday with his first crop including eight stakes winners and 13 stakes performers with his winners coming in six different countries.
