Scherzo (Wootton Bassett) Wins The Prix Du Lude At Chantilly

Wootton Bassett Colt Strikes Late To Remain Unbeaten

Scherzo (2c Wootton Bassett - Persian Belle, by Machiavellian) produced a late challenge to make it two from two in Thursday’s Class 2 conditions race at Chantilly.

The Yann Barberto-trained bay made a winning debut at Compiegne last month, and with winners having come out of that race, was sent off favourite to follow up under Stephane Pasquier. Chasing the leaders for much of the seven furlong contest, he showed a good turn of foot when switched out approaching the final furlong, running on well to score by a neck.

Owned by Malcolm Parrish, Scherzo was bred by Amaury, Danielle and Thierry de la Heronniere. The son of Wootton Bassett provides an important update for his full-sister catalogued in next month’s Arqana Yearling Sale.
