Tiber Flow (Caravaggio) Wins Listed Carnavon at Newbury

Caravaggio Son Nabs Carnavon Victory

Tiber Flow (3c Caravaggio x Malabar, by Raven’s Pass) became Caravaggio’s fifth stakes winner on Saturday with a victory in the Listed Carnavon Stakes at Newbury.

Racing over six furlong on the grass, Tiber Flow broke evenly with much of the field and was happy to split the field in midpack. Using a few horses as cover, he was piloted to clear ground by Tom Marquand inside the final two furlongs and asked to go through his gears.

The colt raced down the leader in the final furlong but had to do his own digging in near the line to keep a rival at bay. Tiber Flow did exactly what needed to be done to win his fourth race in five career starts with a nose victory at the line.

The William Haggas-trained colt started his career in December with his only loss coming by a nose last out. The colt runs for breeders Jon and Julia Aisbitt out of their multiple group winner and three-time Group I-fourth Malabar.

That mare is a half-sister to dual Group I winner Poet’s Word and to the dam of Group II winner Beckford.

Malabar has a 2-year-old Saxon Warrior colt named Godwinson to come.

The sire of 43 winners – the most of any North American second crop sire – Caravaggio also has the third most stakes winners and stakes performers of his class.
