Yeats head shot

Classy Son Of Yeats Records Second Hurdle Success

Jay Bee Why (6g Yeats - Lady Bernie, by Supreme Leader) followed up on a fine performance at Grade 2 level to justify favouritism at Warwick on Friday.

Impressive on his hurdle debut in December, the Alan King-trained bay was beaten just three lengths next time out in the Grade 2 Leamington Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick. He was sent off favourite on his drop back to two miles and three furlongs in Friday’s Novices’ Hurdle and was held up behind the leaders by Tom Canon. Making headway from four out, he led at the third last and went clear on the run-in to win by seven lengths.

A return to Graded company may now be on the cards for the David Sewell and Tim Leadbeater-owned winner, who began his career with Colin Bowe, for whom he won his only start as a four-year-old. The €40,000 foal was bred by Thistletown Stud out of a half-sister to Grade 3 winning hurdler Lordberniebouffant.
