Offline (Requinto) winning a 2yo maiden at Dundalk

Offline looks juvenile star for Requinto

Despite missing the break, highly-regarded Requinto two-year-old Offline (2c Requinto-Poppy’s Rose, by Diktat) made a superb start to his racing career at Dundalk on Friday night.

Trained by Andy Slattery for Christina Phelan, he bounced back from his tardy start to win by three and a half lengths under Declan McDonogh.

Offline had been backed from 5/1 in the morning all the way down to 15/8 favouritism and Slattery admitted the victory was not a surprise.

"We were expecting it as he was working well at home,” said the winning trainer. “He probably wants six or seven (furlongs) going forward. Declan worked him here two weeks ago and he liked him so we said we'd come back here.

“He missed the break and I didn't think he'd do that. He did it well in the finish and Declan said it was probably a blessing in disguise, as he arrived there too soon as it was.

“We'll play it by ear now. I think there is a winners-of-one at Navan in three weeks’ time and we might go for that if the ground dries up. Michael (Phelan) bred him and he has the dam. We're lucky to have the horse. Whether he'll be sold or not now is another thing.”
