The Goffer (Yeats) Wins The Grade A Bulmers Leopardstown Handicap Chase

Son Of Yeats Secures Valuable Prize At Leopardstown

The Goffer (6g Yeats - Ballylough Lady, by Mister Lord) was delivered late by Davy Russell to land a valuable prize in the Grade A Bulmers Leopardstown Handicap Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival.

A Grade 3 winner over hurdles, the Gordon Elliott-trained bay scored on his second start over fences in November and was last seen finishing third in a Grade 2 at Warwick. Dropping back in trip on Sunday, he raced in midfield for much of the way and improved to chase the leaders turning for home. Ridden approaching the final flight, he led on the run-in and ran on well to beat Glamorgan Duke (Flemensfirth) by two lengths.

“We're very happy,” Elliott said after the race. “He jumped great and galloped the whole way to the line. We'll look at all those long distance races and he could be an Irish National horse.”

Owned by Allan Snow, The Goffer began his career with Benny Walsh, for whom he finished third in a four-year-old maiden. The progressive son of Yeats was bred by Joseph O’Rahilly.
