Tenebrism (Caravaggio) Wins Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville

Tenebrism Earns Second G1 in Jean Prat

Europe’s Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Tenebrism (3f Caravaggio x Immortal Verse, by Pivotal) was back to her best on Sunday when she scored a second win at the top level in the Group I Prix Jean Prat.

Facing a field that included six other group winners and eight other stakes winners overall. Outside of the winner, the field was led by Grade I winners Modern Game and Mangoustine.

Cutting back to a sprint distance for the first time since her Group I victory last year, Tenebrism broke well before taking cover behind the leaders in the seven-furlong race. Ryan Moore asked her to run just inside the final quarter and a sixteenth of a mile later, a hole opened right in front of her to give her exactly what she needed. The filly dashed through and was pulling away at the line to win by 1 ¼ lengths.

It was a third win in five starts for the Aidan O’Brien trainee, who was bred by Merriebelle Stables and Coolmore and is joined by those partners in her racing ownership by Westerberg.

It has been a big two weeks for Tenebrism’s dual Group I-winning dam, whose Justify filly Statuette won the Group III Airlie Stud Stakes two Sundays ago. Of Immortal Verse’s five runners, four are winners and two are group winners. This is also the family of top racehorse and champion sire Last Tycoon and Group I winners Hermosa, Hydrangea, The United States, Sense of Style and Valentine Waltz among others.

Immortal Verse foaled a colt from the first Irish-bred crop of Wootton Bassett this year.
