American Pharoah head shot

UK Winner for American Pharoah

Champion Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy has a great association with Godolphin and made the trip to Newmarket to partner Saqqara King (2c American Pharoah x Joyful Victory, by Tapit) in a 7-furlong Novice where he claimed bragging rights as the first winner in Britain and the second in Europe for Triple Crown hero American Pharoah.

The first winner for American Pharoah in Europe came when the Aidan O'Brien-trained Monarch of Egypt made a fine impression on debut in Ireland back in April.

Sent off an odds on favourite following a close up fourth when making his debut at Doncaster on June 1, Saqqara King kept up a strong gallop to win by half a length.

A $200,000 purchase by Godolphin at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Saqqara King is out of the top-class Tapit mare Joyful Victory, a Group I winner of over $1,252,679 in prizemoney.

Saqqara King is the third first crop winner for American Pharoah, who also sired Maven to win in the US. Now in the UK campaigning for globetrotting trainer Wesley Ward, Maven was scratched from Royal Ascot earlier this week due to the ground.
