Inverloch (Fastnet Rock) winning the Listed Mornington Cup Prelude at Caulfield

Wagga Cup Won by Fastnet Rock Stayer

Despite winning at Caulfield two starts ago, Irish bred stayer Inverloch (7g Fastnet Rock x Ideal, by Galileo) was seen as long shot in the Listed Wagga Wagga Cup (2000m) on Friday, but led all the way for Matthew Cahill to score a tenacious win.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the OTI Racing owned stayer showed plenty of heart to stick to his guns and post a long neck victory his ninth from 35 starts with prizemoney topping $715,000.

“He’s just a grand old horse,” Trent Busuttin said. “About three years ago he won a (benchmark) 78 2000 at Swan Hill and I thought that was his go but he’s just kept on winning.

“OTI great supporters of us, great supporters of the industry, good to see them win.

“Great to come to New South Wales, great for the stable, great for the owners.”

A Group III winner previously of the MRC Easter Cup in 2020, Inverloch is one of 21 stakes-winners for Fastnet Rock from daughters of Galileo, the nick running at 21% stakes-winners to runners.

He is a half-brother to stakes-placed Harpocrates and his dam Ideal is a three-quarter-sister by Galileo to Champion 3YO and Group I producing sire Camelot.

Inverloch is the 12th Australian stakes-winner this season for champion sire Fastnet Rock, who stands at $165,000 this spring.
