The celebrated Galileo-Danehill cross has produced numerous high-quality racehorses, headed by the multiple Gr.1 winners Frankel, Highland Reel and Teofilo. Gustav Klimt staked his claim to being one of the fastest members of this distinguished club. At two he won the Gr.2 Superlative Stakes. Despite being stopped in his tracks coming to the final quarter mile, Gustav Klimt quickened very well to snatch victory. Gustav Klimt made a winning reappeance at 3 in the 2,000 Guineas Trial S. over seven furlongs. He went on to finish a half-length second in the St James’s Palace S. and third in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, Prix Jean Prat and the Haydock Sprint Cup.
Gustav Klimt’s very smart form is complemented by a pedigree which shouts stallion success. His dam Massarra, a quick-maturing daughter of Danehill, is a Group-placed full-sister Kodiac, who in 2018 appears to be heading for his second title as champion sire of 2yos. Massarra is also a half-sister to Invincible Spirit, another champion sire of 2yos. Massarra has also produced a Gr.1-winning 2yo. Gustav Klimt’s second dam Rafha won the Gr.1 Prix de Diane and this is also the family of Pride of Dubai, a two-time Gr.1 winner at two in Australia.
There are plenty of pointers available from the stallion careers of Teofilo, Frankel and Intello, three of Galileo’s other Group winners out of Danehill mares. An extra line of DANZIG is proving no problem for these and should reinforce Gustav Klimt’s 2yo ability. Teofilo’s successful stallion son Havana Gold is out of a grand-daughter of GREEN DESERT and Havana Gold’s fast son Havana Grey is inbred 4x3 to GREEN DESERT . Intello’s first Gr.1 winner Intellogent is another out of a grand-daughter of GREEN DESERT, by KHELEYF. Another KHELEYF mare produced Gr.1 winner Tiggy Wiggy to Kodiac. Frankel’s early crops contains stakes winners out of daughters of GREEN DESERT, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, OASIS DREAM and DANEHILL DANCER . Intello (and Galileo) have Group winners out of CLODOVIL mares.
An ACCLAMATION mare produced Massaat, one of Teofilo’s fastest winners, and Kodiac has Group winners with dams by ROYAL APPLAUSE and ACCLAMATION.
Frankel has Gr.1 and Gr.3 winners out of mares by AHONOORA’s sons INCHINOR and INDIAN RIDGE.
The MR PROSPECTOR line merits serious consideration. Frankel’s first crop contains two Group winners with dams by KINGMAMBO and sired the Gr.1 winner Without Parole from a grand-daughter, by LEMON DROP KID. Teofilo has Gr.2 and Gr.3 winners out of mares by KINGMAMBO’s son DUBAI DESTINATION. Kodiac’s Gr.1 winner Best Solution has a dam by KINGMAMBO. MACHIAVELLIAN line mares are another highly attractive option, as they have a Gr.1 winner by Teofilo and a Gr.2 winner by Frankel, and Intello has a Gr.3 winner with a dam by MEDICEAN. There are also Frankel Group winners with dams by WOODMAN and VETTORI.
Inbreeding 3x3 to SADLER’S WELLS is becoming an attractive option with Galileo’s stallion sons. The outstanding Enable is inbred 3x2, and stallions bred on the Galileo-Danehill cross have stakes winners out of daughters of MONTJEU, HIGH CHAPARRAL and REFUSE TO BEND. Frankel also has two first-crop Group winners with second dams by SADLER’S WELLS, including the high-class Eminent.
The line descending from Nureyev is thriving with these Galileo-Danehill cross stallions. Teofilo has stakes winners out of daughters of NUREYEV, POLAR FALCON and PEINTRE CELEBRE, while Frankel has sired the top-class Cracksman and the Gr.1-placed Veracious from PIVOTAL mares. Daughters of PIVOTAL are a must for Gustav Klimt, especially when Kodiac sired the Gr.1 winner Fairyland from one.
Mares from the STORM CAT line have established a terrific partnership with Galileo and this line demands trying with Gustav Klimt. Teofilo has a Gr.1 2yo winner out of a GIANT’S CAUSEWAY mare and Frankel has a Gr.1-winning miler out of a HENNESSY mare. Kodiac has Group winners with dams by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY and SHAMARDAL.
The Sadler’s Wells male line has always thrived with mares from the SHIRLEY HEIGHTS line. Teofilo has excelled with MARK OF ESTEEM mares, siring Gr.1 winner Ajman Princess and Gr.2 winner Permian. Frankel has already sired Group winners from mares by DARSHAAN and DALAKHANI.
The BLUSHING GROOM line also has a lot to offer. Teofilo has a Gr.1 winner with a RAINBOW QUEST mare and a Gr.2 winner from a QUEST TO FAME mare, as well as a Gr.2 winner out of a daughter of GROOM DANCER. Both Teofilo and Frankel have Gr.2 winners with dams by RAHY.
Teofilo has Gr.2 and Gr.3 winners out of DIESIS mares, so mares with SHARPEN UP blood could suit Gustav Klimt.
