Son Of Dylan Thomas Extends Unbeaten Run Over Hurdles

A step up to Graded company looks imminent for Brandon Castle (7g Dylan Thomas - Chelsey Jane, by Galileo), after the Neil King-trained bay brought his hurdle record to two from two at Plumpton on Sunday.

Having beaten a promising type on his hurdle debut last month, Brandon Castle was sent off a short-priced favourite for the two mile Novice Hurdle, once again ridden by Bryony Frost. Setting a strong gallop out in front, he went three lengths clear on the turn for home and stayed on well on the flat to score by six lengths.

His pilot was full of praise afterwards, commenting, “I was quite impressed by this. Brandon Castle kept grinding it out well for me, jumped well and pulled a long way clear.”

Brandon Castle’s two hurdle victories add to seven wins on the flat, including last season’s success in the valuable Queen’s Cup Handicap for Archie Watson. Bred by Barry Walters, he is a three-parts brother to Jack Regan (Rock Of Gibraltar), who sold for 180,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale.
