$140,000 Filly Kicks Off OBS for Competitive Edge

Competitive Edge’s first 2-year-old through the ring at this week’s OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale turned heads Tuesday when selling for $140,000 – 14 times the stud fee she was conceived on.

Consigned by Eddie Woods, Hip 205 was purchased by Bob Peterson Stable half-way through the first session of the sale as one of five 2-year-olds by the Grade I winning sire on offer this week. The Birchwood Bloodstock-bred filly is a half-sister to two winners from two of racing age out of the winning Indian Charlie mare Nitara.

Breezing a quarter in :20.4 last week, just a few ticks off the bullet for the distance, the filly is from the speedy family of Grade I winner and sire Yonaguska and Grade III winning Halo Homewrecker.

The sire of 47 winners from his first crop, Competitive Edge is quickly becoming the value sire of his generation with four stakes winners and seven stakes horses.
