Adele Spike First 2020 Winner For Competitive Edge
Adele Spike (3f Competitive Edge x Ice Curlin, by Curlin) gave her sire his first winner of the year on Sunday when she added a second win to her record in South Korea at Busan against older males.
Racing over 6½ furlongs, the filly wasted no time going to the lead out of the gate when piloted by a calm Jin Kyum. Adele Spike galloped along at a relaxed pace and looked to have plenty left when they entered the stretch, pulling away from the field. Kyum never had to touch her with the whip and the filly cantered home to a 2½ length win with her ears pricked.
Trained by Baik Kwang Yeol for owner Janghyun Lee, Adele Spike has won two of her six starts with two other top three finishes during her career.
Adele Spike’s dam Ice Curlin was sold to K.O.I.D at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in 2016 while carrying the filly. Ice Curlin is a half-sister to Grade III winner Good Student and the dam of Grade III winner Classy Class with their dam a half-sister to Grade I winner Studentessa.
One of the best young sires of his generation, Grade I winner Competitive Edge produced 28 worldwide winners in 2019 to be among the leading First-Crop sires with four stakes winners and six stakes horses overall.
