Elite Legion Becomes The Latest Winner By War Command

Authoritative Maiden Victory For War Command Filly

Elite Legion (2f War Command - Sonning Rose, by Hawk Wing) put the experience of her debut to good use when taking the seven furlong Fillies Maiden at Listowel in comfortable fashion on Friday.

The Jessica Harrington-trained juvenile finished in mid-division on her first attempt, which came over five and a half furlongs, with Conor Hoban aboard once more at the County Kerry track. Drawn wide, he rode the bay to chase the leaders, asking her to improve approaching the two furlong pole and she ran on to lead inside the final furlong. Staying on well, she won by three and a half lengths, leaving her rivals to fight for minor placings.

Hoban was encouraging post-race, commenting, “She was quite impressive at the line. She's a tough little genuine filly.”

The Zhang Yuesheng-owned winner was bred by Tullpark Ltd out of the Listed-placed mare Sonning Rose, who comes from the family of Gleam. War Command, a high-class son of War Front, stands at Castlehyde Stud for a fee of €8,000.
