Barbarian Strikes Again for Competitive Edge
Barbarian (3c Competitive Edge x White Haven, by Unbridled’s Song) took his record to two victories in three starts on Friday with a win at Busan in South Korea.
Racing over 6½ furlongs on dirt for trainer Bang Dong Suk, the colt had a rough start but quickly recovered to run wide just behind the leaders. As they raced into the stretch, he drew even and the race was quickly over. Racing down the center of the track he took over the lead with two furlongs left and was never challenged when pulling away to win by a widening six lengths.
It was the third start for Barbarian, whose only blip in his career came as a second in his debut. Bred by Jung Byoung Chul, the colt is owned by Lee Won Tae. His winning Unbridled’s Song dam White Haven, a half-sister to Listed winning Graziella, is the dam of three winners from four to race and was imported to South Korea while carrying Barbarian.
Unbridled’s Song has proven to be a successful cross for Competitive Edge with two of his three runners out of the sire’s daughters winning at least one race.
A Grade I winner on the track, Competitive Edge is quickly proving to be the top value sire of his generation with 35 winners worldwide, including six stakes horses led by four stakes winners.
