Cat pounces in G3 for Dylan Thomas
Captain Cat (5g Dylan Thomas-Mother Of Pearl, by Sadler´s Wells) oozed class as he captured Salisbury’s feature G3 Sovereign Stakes by two and a half lengths on Thursday.
Roger Charlton’s charge, a 125,000gns foal purchase bred by Azienda Agricola Mediterranea, was having his first start since Good Friday in the mile contest. Jockey James Doyle was always travelling ominously well aboard the son of Dylan Thomas who was not extended when winning the race in facile fashion.
“That was pretty enjoyable to watch, seeing him cruising down the outside. He's improved. Provided he's OK, he could well run in the G2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood (August 23) later this month,” Charlton told PA Sport.
Doyle was equally impressed and added: “I was pleasantly surprised how well I was going, he was good today. He's a horse in his younger years who was tall and lanky, a shell of a horse, but now he's really strengthened up and looks the complete article.
“I was a little concerned after the downpour but he's very versatile. He's good on Polytrack but he showed he's as good on turf. He'd handle Goodwood no problem, he's well balanced.”
