Miles Ahead (Competitive Edge) Wins Gp Maiden

Competitive Edge’s Miles Ahead Lives Up to Name at Gulfstream

Miles Ahead (3c Competitive Edge x Jennie R., by Awesome Again) lived up to his name at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday when the 3-year-old won in a big way to become Competitive Edge’s 33rd winner.

Breaking sharply, Miles Ahead went straight to the lead in the six furlong contest and was toying with his competition in the early stages as rivals continued to attempt to pressure him. Edgar Prado couldn’t look more confident on his mount as they galloped away from the field in the turn.

Prado kept Miles Ahead focused as they ran down the stretch and the colt continued to build the margin in the final furlong, winning for trainer Edward Plesa, Jr. by an impressive 12 ¼ lengths.

It was the second start for the colt owned by David Melin, Leon Ellman, and Laurie Plesa, who purchased him at the OBS March 2-Year-Old last year for $175,000.

Out of stakes winning and Grade III-placed Jennie R., Miles Ahead is a half-brother to Listed winner and Grade II-placed La Grange and Listed placed Magic d’Oro. La Grange and another half-sister have also produced three stakes horses between them.

Grade I winner Competitive Edge has impressed with his first crop siring 33 winners worldwide, led by six stakes horses including four stakes winners.
