Competitive Fire Latest Winner for Competitive Edge
First crop sire Competitive Edge added another impressive runner to his resume on Friday at Indiana Grand when Competitive Fire (2f Competitive Edge x Jasmine Gardens, by Mineshaft) broke her maiden by 4¾ lengths to become her sire’s 14th winner.
Owned by Rags Racing LLC and Dundalk 5 LLC, the 2-year-old filly shadowed the leader for much of the one-mile affair before taking charge in the stretch and pulling away. It was the second start for the Paul Holthus-trainee, who finished second behind fellow Competitive Edge daughter Reagan’s Edge in her debut.
Bred by Dermot Andrew Littlefield and Danielle Austin, the filly was a $40,000 purchase by Walt Borisenok as a weanling at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale and RNA'ed earlier this year for $140,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training sale.
Competitive Fire is a half-sister to stakes placed Born to d’ Wild and the fourth winner out of her dam, Jasmine Gardens. Jasmine Gardens is out of a half-sister to Irish Champion 2-year-old Tomahawk.
One of the leading first-crop sires, Competitive Edge is the sire of 14 winners including stakes winners Sassy Seneca, My Italian Rabbi, and Fierce Lady.
