Competitive Idea Second Winner in Two Days for Competitive Edge
It was a second winner in as many days for promising young sire Competitive Edge on Monday when Competitive Idea (2g Competitive Edge x That’s The Idea, by Diabolical) easily broke his maiden on debut.
The Todd Fincher trainee took an early lead in the six furlong affair, brushing off early pressure to open up a one length lead with three furlongs to run. Competitive Idea’s win was all but assured as he hit the stretch but under jockey Ry Eikkleberry he made sure there was no doubt of his superiority when pulling away to win by 7½ lengths as the favorite.
Raced by breeders J. Kirk and Judy Robison, Competitive Idea is the first foal by two-time stakes winner That’s The Idea, a half-sister to stakes placed Rescue Plan. That’s The Idea is a granddaughter of Grade I winner Buy The Firm and from the family of Grade I winners Ayusan and Image Of Greatness.
Competitive Idea’s victory comes a day after Global Party broke his maiden in South Korea. They are the 16th and 17th Northern Hemisphere winners for their sires, who has also sired five stakes horses – including four stakes winners – from his first crop to be among this year’s leading sires.
