Broken Stones (Requinto) winning a novices' stakes at York

Debutant wins York novice event for Requinto

There was more first-crop success for Requinto at York on Saturday when Kevin Ryan sent out newcomer Broken Stones (2c Requinto-Positive Step, by Footstepsinthesand) to win the six-furlong novices’ event for owners Matt and Lauren Morgan. A 200,000gns purchase from last month’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, the Highpark Bloodstock-bred colt justified favouritism to win by a length and a half under Jamie Spencer. There was understandably talk of Royal Ascot after the race but Ryan told the Racing Post: “We think a lot of Broken Stones. He was very impressive the way he did it. Looking at that, there is a chance he is going to get 7f and Ascot is not the be all and end all, it is a long year.”
