Excelebration Juvenile Gains Second Straight Success

Grove Ferry (2c Excelebration - Rebelline, by Robellino) completed back-to-back wins when taking the seven furlong Novice Stakes at Epsom on Thursday.

The Andrew Balding-trained colt scored over six furlongs on soft ground a month ago and was sent off second favourite for his latest start on ground described as good-to-firm. David Probert rode the bay to track the leaders and became unbalanced when producing a challenge approaching the final furlong. After recovering, he ran on well to lead close home and beat the favourite Be Prepared, a six length winner last time out, by three parts of a length.

Grove Ferry is co-owned by Martin and Valerie Slade and was bred by Lady O’Reilly’s Skymarc Farm out of top racemare Rebelline, whose greatest victory came in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup. Her son, Recharge, finished second in that same contest and also won the Irish 2,000 Guineas Trial.
