Excelebration winning the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot

Excelebration one of Europe’s best milers of recent years - Timeform

Timeform today released their final rankings for 2012 and have revealed that Excelebration is one of the most-outstanding milers to have run in Europe in the past few years with a ranking of 133.

But for Galileo’s unique son Frankel, Excelebration - who has retired to stand at Coolmore this year at a fee of €22,500 - would have been Europe’s champion miler in 2012.

The superbly consistent Excelebration retired as a six-time Group winner with his major victories including the G1 Prix du Moulin, G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

In Timeform’s essay, to be published in March in the Racehorses of 2012 annual, they state that: “Along with Canford Cliffs, whom he has now joined on the stallion roster at Coolmore, Excelebration was close to being the best miler seen in Europe in recent years, with the obvious exception of Frankel”.

They added that’s Excelebration’s brilliant victory in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot (pictured) in October was “one of the best winning displays in the last 20 years or so” in the mile championship event.

Excelebration was the highest-rated horse trained in Ireland in 2013 and Timeform described him as “a thoroughly genuine racehorse who never ran anything but creditably in any of his 15 career starts”.
