First Winner for Verrazano

Verrazano posted his first winner anywhere in the world last weekend when Copia Ciega (2f Verrazano x Dharana, by Street Cry) scored an impressive debut victory at Hipodromo Chile in Santiago.

A homebred for Haras Dona Icha trained by Carlos Hernandez Urbina, she powered clear to win the five furlong dirt maiden by more than four lengths from a big field of 14 starters.

Dharana was acquired by Haras Dona Icha for $40,000 out of Taylor Made Sales Agency's consignment at the 2015 Keeneland November Breeding-Stock Sale and was carrying Copia Ciega in utero when she was sold.

Verrazano shuttled for one season in 2015 to Australia where he will have two year-old runners this season and has since gone to Chile for the past two Southern Hemisphere seasons, so the win of Copia Ciega will be a big boost for him in South America.
