Dylan Thomas head shot

Further Stakes Success For Son Of Dylan Thomas

The evergreen Spark Plug (7g Dylan Thomas - Kournikova, by Sportsworld) led home a 1-2 for Coolmore National Hunt sires in Wednesday’s Listed Wild Flower Stakes at Kempton.

Stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time, the Brian Meehan-trained gelding was ridden in midfield for much of the way and made good progress to lead over a furlong from home. Driven out by Tom Marquand, he beat the smart dual-purpose mare Verdana Blue (Getaway) by a length and a quarter.

Twice successful at Stakes level and the winner of the Cambridgeshire Handicap, Spark Plug has also gained black-type placing on seven occassions. Owned by J L Day and bred by Airlie Stud, he has amassed over €300,000 in prize money for connections.

Six-time Group 1 winner Dylan Thomas stood for €5,000 in 2018.
