Galileo’s Maybe is definitely very special
Maybe (2f Galileo-Sumora, by Danehill) proved herself the best juvenile filly seen so far in 2011 when running out a brilliant two and a half length winner of the G2 Keeneland Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly had won all her three previous starts and hugely impressed everybody who saw this latest success, so much so that she is as short as 7/2 favourite to give Galileo another Classic success in next year’s G1 1,000 Guineas.
“I'm delighted with that,” O’Brien told Press Association Sport. “She will go for the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes next. Joseph (O’Brien) was very happy with her on her previous start at Leopardstown, even though she only won by half a length.
“I was afraid of that soft ground before going to Royal Ascot (where she won the Listed Chesham Stakes), but she obviously has no problem with it.”
Bred at Denis and Joan Brosnan’s Croom House Stud, Maybe was bought for 340,000 euros at the Arqana August Sale last year. She received a pedigree boost shortly after this Curragh success when Dancing Rain (3f Danehill Dancer-Rain Flower, by Indian Ridge), a half-sister to her dam, added the G1 German Oaks to her earlier G1 Epsom Oaks win.
The unstoppable Galileo had a new Listed winner at Haydock on Saturday when Crystal Gal (4f Galileo-Park Crystal, by Danehill) won the Listed Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes while he was also represented by another smart juvenile on Sunday.
Was (2f Galileo-Alluring Park, by Green Desert) topped last year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale when making 1.2 million guineas and took a mile maiden on her debut at the Curragh by two and a half lengths.
