Gallowglass (Ask) winning the bumper at Limerick

Gallowglass runs away with bumper for Ask

Gallowglass (5g Ask-Tisindabreedin, by Zaffaran) could prove to be a flag bearer for Stephen Ryan’s small Co Tipperary yard after putting in a convincing bumper success at Limerick on Sunday.

The Ask gelding, bred by E O’Connell, finished second on his only previous start and, ridden by the trainer’s nephew Trevor Ryan, they stepped up to win this contest by five lengths. There was another nine lengths back to the third.

“That was lovely and I was hoping he'd build on his first run, which was encouraging. I've had a heap of placed horses recently and this has made up for them,” said the winning trainer.

The Racing Post commented: “GALLOWGLASS, second to a Willie Mullins-trained runner at Clonmel on his debut, confirmed that promise with a convincing success. He appeals as a type with a solid future over jumps for his small County Tipperary stable.”

Also on Sunday, Tom George sent out bumper winner Forgot To Ask (6g Ask-Lady Transcend, by Aristocracy) to land a maiden hurdle at Market Rasen. The six-year-old was bred by Patrick Hayes.
