Imperial Monarch Sires Debut Point-To-Point Winner
Cill Anna (4m Imperial Monarch - Technohead, by Distinctly North) provided her Beeches Stud sire with a first crop winner when winning on debut at Monksgrange on Sunday.
13 lined up for the Four-Year-Old Mares Maiden and Barry O’Neill sent his mount to the lead, the mare obliging with a fine round of jumping and quickened when asked two fences from home. Staying on well, she held off a challenge by fellow newcomer Who’s The boss (Oscar) to win by a head, with all of ten lengths back to their nearest rival.
The Colin Bowe-trained winner clearly came into the race with a reputation, having been sent off favourite. Bred by Ms Marisa and Michael Bourke, she is a half-sister to two winners by Flemensfirth and cost her handler €38,000 at the Goffs Landrover Sale.
Cill Anna is the second daughter of Imperial Monarch to catch the eye between the flags, with the Ashleigh Murphy-trained Imperial View having finished second on debut at Durrow earlier in the month. Their Group 1 winning sire, whose dam is a half-sister to Oscar, commands €2,500 at the Beeches Stud this season.
