Irish Mission Claims Another Feature

Talented mare Irish Mission (6m Giant’s Causeway x Misty Mission, by Miswaki) might be on her way to the breeding barn, but she added another big win to her resume when taking out $150,000 Grade III The Very One Stakes at Gulfstream on the weekend. Previously with Mark Frostad, Irish Mission was transferred last year to Christophe Clement and took out the Grade III La Prevoyante Stakes just after Christmas and was having her first run since then in this 1 3/8th mile contest. She stalked the leader and forged clear to win by a length and a half, with connections now giving thought to one more run before she heads to stud. “I'm delighted to win for Mr. Evans (owner Robert Evans) ,” Clement said. “He's a great owner to win for. Plus, I think she's a wonderful mare and a very exciting broodmare prospect for him. There are two choices--one, she goes to Kentucky [to be bred to Tapit] next week, where it's very cold and awful weather, or she can stay in the sunshine here and run back in the [GIII] Orchid [S. Mar. 28], but I'm sure Mr. Evans will make up his mind and let me know next week." A $375,000 purchase from the Fasig-Tipton August Select Sale, Irish Mission has won seven races and placed nine times from 29 starts earning more than $1.3 million in prizemoney. A valuable daughter of champion sire Giant's Causeway, Irish Mission is a half-sister to Grade III winner French Beret and is one of four winners from stakes-winner Misty Mission, a daughter of Canadian Grade I winner Hangin on a Star.
