Ivawood Colt Blows Rivals Away At Chantilly
Newcomer Hurricane Ivor (2c Ivawood - Quickstep Queen, by Royal Applause) ran out an ultra-impressive winner at Chantilly on Friday, carrying the same colours that his sire carried to success in two Group 2’s as a juvenile.
The Fiona Carmichael-owned colt broke well to lead and had his rivals struggling to keep up from early-on, with Pierre-Charles Boudot looking over his shoulder inside the two furlong marker. Racing on the bridle all the way to the line, he scored by seven and a half lengths.
The Fabrice Chappet-trained winner, who was bought as a foal for 105,000gns, may now head to Royal Ascot. He was bred by J and P McLoughney out of an unraced half-sister to Group 3 performer Take A Deep Breath, from the speedy family of Mirza, Birchwood and Millyant.
Hurricane Ivor becomes the second winner by his Freshman sire after winning newcomer Iva Go. As well as landing two Group 2 contests, Ivawood finished a close second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and went on to finish third to Gleneagles in both the Irish and English 2,000 Guineas. A 220,000gns yearling purchase himself, he commands a fee of €5,000 this season.
