Ivawood Colt Remains Unbeaten With Listed Win

Friday saw Chares (2c Ivawood - Coco Demure, by Titus Livius) extend his unbeaten record to three when leading home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires in the Listed Criterium de Lyon.

Twice a clearcut winner over seven furlongs, the Christophe Ferland-trained colt was sent off favourite for the mile contest. Julien Auge settled the chesnut towards the back of the field, producing a challenge two furlongs from home, his charge racing home strongly to join the leaders a furlong later. Choise Of Raison (Zoffany) proved a formidable opponent as they raced towards the line, where Chares prevailed by a neck, as Magic Attitude (Galileo) ran on for third behind them.

An Ecurie Waldbeck homebred, Chares is a half-brother to seven-time winner Qaysar (Choisir) and the useful White Chocolate (Mastercraftsman). He comes from a promising first crop by Ivawood, whose two-year-old winners also include Albany Stakes fourth Alabama Whitman.
