K P Indy (Competitive Edge) wins Santa Anita maidenaiden Winner

K P Indy 36th Winner for Competitive Edge

K P Indy (3c Competitive Edge x Reina Diamante, by Pulpit) continued Competitive Edge’s top week when becoming his third winner in four days on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Running over 5½ furlongs on the turf in a Maiden Special Weight, K P Indy raced just behind the leader throughout the early stages of the race. It wasn’t until the stretch run that Abel Cedillo asked his mount to go after the leader and he easily went past.

His work wasn’t done, however, and he had to dig deep to keep the lead from another rival in the closing stages of the race. Showing he still had enough left for that challenge, K P Indy held his opponent at bay by a head to break his maiden for trainer Jeff Mullins and owner Karl Pergola.

Purchased for $170,000 at OBS March last year by Bob Feld Bloodstock from Harris Training Center, the colt was bred by Steven and Brandi Nicholson.

The second winner from two runners out of Reina Diamante, K P Indy’s granddam is Giant’s Causeway’s Grade III winner Bridge Game, who is also the dam of Listed placed Shalako. The colt also hails from the family of Horse of the Year Tiznow and Grade I winners Oxbow and Paynter.

One of 36 winners from value sire Competitive Edge, K P Indy is bred on the Competitive Edge x A.P. Indy cross that has produced six winners including two of the stallion’s four stakes winners.
