Life On The Edge Wins Second Race for Competitive Edge
Life On The Edge (2f Competitive Edge x Simply Precious, by Ascot Knight) won her second start on Monday at Laurel Park impressively when racing to a 2 ¾ length victory over one mile on the turf.
The filly was put into striking distance from the start by jockey Jorge Vargas, Jr. as she raced just behind the leader through sharp fractions. Life On The Edge took over the lead quickly after Vargas, Jr. asked her to go and there was no catching the promising filly as she pulled away to win by 2 ¾ lengths.
Trained by Kelly Breen, it was the second victory for the Kingview Farms-bred. Purchased as a yearling for $14,000, she turned into a $72,000 2-year-old when bought by racing owner Kenwood Racing at the OBS March Sale Of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
Life On The Edge is one of seven winners for her dam Simply Precious, who also produced stakes winner Bear’s Gem and stakes placed Peggy O. A winner herself, Simply Precious is a half-sister to Canadian champion Van Lear Rose.
Competitive Edge has sired 14 winners for 19 wins from his first 2-year-olds for just under $1 million in progeny earnings as the number three leading freshman sire this year.
