Maru 34th Winner for Competitive Edge
For the second time in 24 hours, Competitive Edge added an impressive winner to his count when Maru (3f Competitive Edge x Regala Di Trieste, by Old Trieste) broke her maiden at Aqueduct.
Maru went straight to the lead in the six furlong race on dirt and quickly opened up on the overmatched field. With Reylu Gutierrez aboard, Maru galloped along a few lengths ahead of the field. When she hit the turn, Maru found another gear and built up a sizable lead by the time she hit the stretch.
She was much the best, coasting home to a seven length victory for owner E.V. Racing Stable and trainer Rudy Rodriguez. Her sire’s 34th winner, Maru has shown talent since her debut with five top three finishes in six starts.
Maru was bred by Sequel Thoroughbreds and Long Grove Stable. Her dam Regala Di Trieste was a winner during her career and counts Listed placed My Lady Lauren among her six winners. The mare is a half-sister to dual-Grade I winner Pioneerof the Nile and Grade II-placed Forefathers.
Maru continues an exciting trend for Competitive Edge as the eighth winner for her sire out of A.P. Indy lined mares, including three of his four stakes winners.
Competitive Edge’s 34 winners makes him the leading second crop sire by winners with nearly 50 percent winners from runners and six stakes horses.
