Misty Blue Wins Again For Competitive Edge
Competitive Edge’s top-class year continued Saturday when Misty Blue (3f Competitive Edge x My Names Nicole, by Charismatic) won her second straight race at Oaklawn.
Racing over six furlongs, Misty Blue went straight to the lead with Martin Garcia aboard. In command from the break, the filly gradually increased her lead around the turn and hit the stretch three lengths in front. Garcia’s only job in the final furlong was to keep his mount focused as Misty Blue easily rolled to a 7¼ length win for trainer Michael Maker.
It was the third career victory for Misty Blue, who took her earnings to $117,975 for owners WSS Racing and Hooties Racing. Purchased by that partnership for $105,000 as a 2-year-old at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale, Misty Blue was bred by Debra Ann Shehadi.
The filly is one of six winners from her dam My Names Nicole, who is a half-sister to Listed winner and Group I placed Bobe Bela and descends from the family of Tatallah.
The sire of 39 winners, including four stakes winners and six stakes horses, Competitive Edge is the leading second crop sire by winners.
