More Sale Ring Success for Competitive Edge
The North American 2YO Sales have featured many notable results for exciting young sire Competitive Edge, who also made his presence felt across the Atlantic at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale this week where his filly from Hug and Kiss sold for 280,000 guineas.
Consigned by Ciaron Hughes’ CH Thoroughbreds and bought by Highland Yard LLC / Harvey Bloodstock, the filly is from Grade III placed Hug and A Kiss, a grand-daughter of US Grade I winner Marylebone.
She was a spectacular pinhook success having been bought as a yearling for 32,000 euros.
"I was in the US and saw some by the sire and thought they were nice horses," said Cian Hughes. "Her page caught my eye in the yearling catalogue – her dam was Group 3 placed in France – so I took a look at her. She is a lovely filly and I did not think we'd buy her.
"She is a real two-year-old type, but I have not been hard on her, I like to mind them."
Harvey Bloodstock’s Daithi Harvey commented; "She is a gorgeous, beautiful filly. She did a good sectionals, but is also out of a mare rated 107, who was a 10-furlong performer so we hope she'll train on as a three-year-old too."
A Grade I winning 2YO by Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, Competitive Edge already has a winner on the board from his first crop and his run of outstanding sales success would indicate there are many more to come.
Competitive Edge is priced at just $5,000, so may well be the bargain sire of the year in 2019.
