Mustn’t Grumble Continues Top Week for Competitive Edge

In a top week for Competitive Edge, Mustn’t Grumble (2f Competitive Edge x Juanita Senorita, by Corinthian) became his newest winner – and second in less than 24 hours - when breaking her maiden at Woodbine.

Trained by Catherine Day Phillips, the filly went off as the heavy favorite in the five furlong race. Mustn’t Grumble raced in the middle of the tight pack just behind the leader, content to let others set the pace just in front of her. She left her best work for late, threading through a hole in the final furlong to collar the leader and win by a neck at the wire.

It was the second start for the filly, who showed promise when finishing second in her debut last month.

Bought from Keeneland September by racing owner All My Hart Racing, Mustn’t Grumble was bred by Ashleigh Stud Farm, Pamela Deegan, and Joe Deegan in Kentucky. She is the first foal out of two-time winner Juanita Senorita, who is a granddaughter of Canadian Champion Hope For a Breeze and a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Gilded Gold and stakes winner Pancake.

A sire on fire, Competitive Edge has sired four winners in three different countries over the past week with his 21 winners tying him for the second most of any First-Crop Sire behind studmate American Pharoah and putting him among the top sires of all 2-year-old winners.
