New Group Three Winner for Choisir

Astute Newcastle trainer Paul Perry enjoyed the highs of racing with his globe-trotting superstar Choisir and it was one of his offspring in Wouldnt It Be Nice (4g Choisir x Mia Cat Dancer, by Tactical Cat) that had him back in the winner’s circle at Randwick on Saturday following the Group III ATC Concorde Stakes.

Consistent without winning in recent runs, Wouldnt It Be Nice relished the heavy track to power home and win the 1000 metre dash by a length, his overall record now four wins and seven placings from 22 starts with prizemoney topping $310,000.

With plenty of recent racing, fitness told the tale over the concluding stages.

"I knew he was fit and wanted to try and utilise that against these,” said winning rider Sam Clipperton.

"He was travelling really well in the run and I wanted to let him go through his gears before asking him for an effort.

"When we levelled up, that’s when I thought his fitness would kick in.”

A $40,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Southern Cross Breeders draft, Wouldnt It Be Nice was bred by Senga Bisset and Ivan Woodford-Smith of Ashleigh Thoroughbreds.

He is the first foal of imported US stakes-winner Mia Cat Dancer a half-sister by Tactical Cat to another US stakes-winner in Skip the Print.

Woudnt It Be Nice is the 63rd stakes-winner Choisir, who stands at a fee of $29,700 this spring.
