Imperial Hope Wins The 4 Yo Maiden At Stradbally 1

Newcomer Kicks Off Sunday Double For Imperial Monarch

Imperial Hope (4g Imperial Monarch - Ebony Hope, by Beneficial) displayed an admirable attitude when rallying to win Sunday’s Four-Year-Old Maiden at Stradbally.

The Tom Keating owned and trained newcomer led for much of the way in testing conditions, but was headed by Planned Paradise (Westerner) in the straight. Digging deep, Imperial Hope ran on well on the run-in and won by half a length under Eoin Shaw.

Bred by Patrick O’Leary, Imperial Hope completed the first leg of a Sunday double for Beeches Stud sire Imperial Monarch, with the Jimmy Mangan-trained Welsh Reign (5g Imperial Monarch - Marians Gem, by Golan) taking the final at Boulta that afternoon.

Owned by Hanford’s Chemist Ltd, the bay finished a fine second on his first start of the season in October and was reunited with Johnny Hurley on Sunday to race prominently throughout. Leading from the third last, he was in command at the final fence and ran on well on the run-in to score by four lengths from Truckin With Paddy (Imperial Monarch), who finished clear of the field.

Bred by Mrs Trish Powell, Welsh Reign hails from the first crop of Imperial Monarch.
