Michael Tabor's talented filly Pellucid (3f Excelebration x Sky Crystal, by Galileo) was an impressive winner at Santa Anita on Thursday.
A winner in the UK and Grade III placed in the Dick Poole Stakes last year, Pellucid was having her second start in North America for new trainer Simon Callaghan.
Sent out favourite for the 6½ furlong allowance on turf, the daughter of Excelebration dashed away to win in dominant style by 2¼ lengths.
“She’s super talented,” said Callaghan, “She’s a bit headstrong, but we’re working with her to relax. Flavien worked her a couple times before this race, so that helped.”
The filly will step back up to stakes company next time out, most likely a turf stakes over a mile at Santa Anita .
Pellucid is the first winner for her dam Sky Crystal, from the family of Group I winner Crystal Music.
Her victory builds on a run of success being enjoyed by her sire Excelebration, who has sired stakes-recent winners in both hemispheres in Barney Roy and Saint Patricks Day.
