Power Forward Wins On Debut For Competitive Edge
Power Forward (3f Competitive Edge x Hard To Get, by Not For Love) provided her sire with his 29th winner on Thursday night when winning under the lights at Charles Town.
Making her debut for owner/breeder Coleswood Farm, Power Forward broke well in the 4½ furlong sprint as the favorite and was less than a length behind the leader as the field raced into the turn. It took until the final furlong for Power Forward to take over the lead but once she had it, there was no risk of defeat with the filly winning by 2¼ lengths.
Trained by Jeff Runco, Power Forward is a half-sister to stakes winner Slip The Cable and stakes placed Weekend Liberty, with the two among Hard To Get’s six winners from six to race. There is plenty of blacktype under Power Forward’s second dam to suggest there is more in store for the filly. That dam, Grade III winning Petrouchka, is the dam of Listed winners Jennie R. and Willsboro Point with her daughters and granddaughters producing seven stakes horses.
Among last year’s leading freshman sires with 28 winners including four stakes winners, Competitive Edge is already off to a fast start in 2020 with two winners in the first week and a half of the year.
