Requinto Juvenile Doubles Up Under A Penalty
The Tom Dascombe-trained Morisco (2c Requinto - Mattinata, by Tiger Hill) defied a penalty when justifying favoritism over a mile at Ayr on Thursday.
Successful over seven furlongs in July, he went on to finish fifth in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes over the same trip. Richard Kingscote was back on board on Thursday and rode the bay to track the leaders, producing a challenge approaching the two furlong pole. Leading before the final furlong, he was pushed out to score by a length and a quarter, with another four lengths back to the third horse.
Speaking after the race, Kingscote said, “Morisco ran a nice race at York. Obviously we had to give them weight today but I don't think he's had to improve to beat them.”
Owned by Mrs Caroline Ingram, Morisco was bought by Sackville Donald as a yearling for €45,000 from breeder Kildaragh Stud. He is a full-brother to dual winner Howzer Black (Requinto), out of a winning half-sister to five Stakes horses.
