Royal Ascot aim for Champs Elysees winner
Trainer Brian Meehan has his eyes on Royal Ascot after Adjutant (3c Champs Elysees-Jubilee, by Selkirk) shook off a string of well-related opponents to win a classy Newbury maiden on Saturday.
The Champs Elysees colt, racing for breeder Poilin Good, showed real guts to get up in the final stages of the mile maiden and Meehan believes the winner has a big future.
"We did some good work with him the other day and he battled to the line and will get further,” said Meehan. "David O'Meara trained him last year and I know he liked him. It was a pretty impressive performance and we might look at aiming him towards the Britannia (at Royal Ascot)."
