Smart Winner for Choisir

Choisir was the leading sire of individual Australian two year-old winners last season and it was one of those winners in Resistant (3c Choisir x Swinging Babe, by Encosta de Lago) that took out a very competitive three year-old event at Flemington on Saturday. Placed at his past three runs, the Mick Price trained Resistant had race fitness in his favour on the rain affected track and with a three kilo claim for apprentice rider Patrick Moloney taking the sting out of his 60 kg top weight, the colt always looked a good chance. He travelled well in running just behind the pace and surged strongly to the line to win the 1410 metre contest going away by two lengths. “He just keeps chipping away and sticking his head out, but he ran right away with that one today,” said Mick Price. “The horse deserves the win. He’s been a good earner and has a very good bunch of owners in him.” An $85,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the draft of Burnewang North, Resistant is raced by a large group of owners led by Luke Wilkinson with his breeder Cathy Hains of Burnewang North retaining a share as well. Resistant has the smart record of two wins and four placings from eight starts and has banked in excess of $230,000 for connections. He is one of two winners from stakes-placed Encosta de Lago mare Swinging Babe who comes from the family of stakes-winner Carnelian. Swinging Babe was covered last year by Choisir so will produce a full sibling to Resistant this spring.
