Son Of Sans Frontieres Battles For Hurdle Victory

The Henry de Bromhead-trained Jason The Militant (5g Sans Frontieres - Rock Angel, by Desert King) showed a game attitude when rallying to win Saturday’s Maiden Hurdle at Limerick.

Third to subsequent Grade 1 winner Envoi Allen on his sole start in a bumper last season, Peter Michael’s homebred made a promising start to his hurdle career last month, when finishing second at Fairyhouse. Hugh Morgan rode the bay to track the leader, asserting after halfway and was joined by General Counsel at the final flight. Battling on the run-in, Jason The Militant led close home and won by a neck, the pair drawing seven lengths clear of the favourite in third.

Hugh Morgan was impressed by the winner, commenting after the race, “Jason The Militant jumped well, didn't miss a hurdle and battled the whole way. When the runner-up came upsides he picked up again and was brave.”

Bred by Peter and Martin Michael, the winner comes from the first crop of Beeches Stud sire Sans Frontieres.
