Son Of Sans Frontieres Wins On Hurdle Debut

Mister Eddman (5g Sans Frontieres - Her Island, by Heron Island) showed an admirable attitude and natural ability when winning his hurdle debut at Downpatrick on Sunday.

A fine third on his sole point-to-point start last month, he faced 11 rivals in the Connolly’s Red Mills Irish EBF Maiden Hurdle, which was run over two miles and three furlongs. Ridden to track the leader by Danny Hand, he asserted from the third last and was asked for further reserves as they approached the final flight, from which he raced clear, scoring by three lengths and three quarters on the line. Lady Ischia, who was previously Listed-placed in a bumper, strengthened the form by claiming runners-up honours.

Winning trainer Oliver McKiernan said after the race, “I definitely thought he had an each-way chance today - we came here for place money in fairness. You'll definitely see him in Punchestown in the final of this series.”

Mister Eddman was bred by Eric Barrett and races for the Keep The Faith Syndicate.
