Troop Commander Wins At Killarney

Son of War Command Charges Clear

A step up in trip saw Troop Commander (2c War Command - Tempura, by Cape Cross) get off the mark in fine style at Killarney on Saturday.

Trained by Kevin Prendergast for his wife, was one of 14 to line up for the mile contest, with his previous starts having come over seven furlongs. Chris Hayes settled the bay in mid-division and began to make good headway from the three furlong marker, improving to lead a furlong and a half from home. Ridden clear inside the final furlong, he won by three and a half lengths as Bellsinthewood (Ivawood) stayed on for second.

Chris Hayes later eluded that there may be more to come from the winner, commenting, “Troop Commander put up a nice performance. He was slowly away and I gave him a chance to find his feet. He was crying out for the step up in trip and I think there's a nice pot in him.”

Troop Commander was bred by Churchtown House Stud and provides a timely update for his yearling half-brother by Pride Of Dubai, who is catalogued to sell at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale. Their dam, Tempura, is a daughter of dual Group 3 winner Trumbaka and comes from the family of Gimcrack Stakes winner Emaraaty Ana and Group 1 performer Russian Blue.
