Son Of War Command Wins Competitive Contest

Piper Arrow (3g War Command - Zeyran, by Galileo) continued an excellent season for the Andrew Balding stable when taking the Novice Stakes at Chelmsford on Thursday evening.

The David Brownlow-owned bay was bouncing back from a disappointing run at Southwell last time out, but had shown good promise on debut in April.

Josephine Gordon got her mount in a prominent position and gave chase after the leader over five furlongs out. Ridden inside the final furlong, he stayed on to lead close home and beat previous winner Almashriq by a neck, closely followed by the favourite Search For Light.

Piper Arrow was bred by Mrs J.E. Laws and comes from the family of Hollywood Derby victor Seek Again and Grade 1 winner Light Jig.
