South African Group III for Gibraltar Blue

Irish bred South African based Gibraltar Blue (5m Rock of Gibraltar x Holly Blue, by Bluebird) returned to her best to win the Group III Joburg Spring Challenge at Turffontein on Saturday. The Mike de Kock trained mare took the 1450 metre weight-for-age feature by two and three-quarter lengths, taking her overall record to seven wins from 13 starts. Gibraltar Blue was bred in Ireland by Annalee Bloodstock & Rockhart Trading Ltd and sold from Marlhill Stud as a yearling for €75,000 at the Goffs Million sale. From the stakes-winning Bluebird mare Holly Blue, Gibraltar Blue is one of 67 stakes-winners worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar, who is enjoying an outstanding year in Europe.
